The Original Copyright of the Japanese Animation “Attack on Titan” was Sold through Blockchain
“Thanks to blockchain technology, even after the resale of the artwork, their names will be remembered as owner throughout the history of the art evolution. Copyright owners and buyers can trade with people all over the world on art platform. A portion of the transaction amount will also benefit the copyright owners.”
Anique, an Internet service company, published its blockchain project “Anique” on May 8th, which enables owners to own digital copyright services by adopting blockchain technology called NFT (Non-Fungible Token). The company said that excellent Japanese cultural and artistic products such as animation, cartoons and games can be auctioned by using blockchain technology.
It was announced on the company’s official website that digital ownership would be sold by lot to a buyer. The time is from May 8th to May 20th, 2019. In terms of selling price, digital ownership is 10,000 yen (excluding taxes), and the price of digital ownership and a set of celluloid animations mounted in a picture frame is 60,000 yen (excluding taxes and freight).
The artwork Anique dealing with covering Japanese animation, cartoons and games. Not only the content of the current high popularity, but also includes the “forgotten excellent works” that had been screened and sold before.
As the first batch of project to provide services, the ownership of the world’s popular animated work “Attack on Titan” and other 26 works of art will be sold by lot from May 8th, 2019.
Anique can grant four privileges to those who fit one of bill below:
Firstly, as the owner of the product, one can record the ownership of the product in the blockchain. Thanks to blockchain technology, even after the resale of the artwork, their names will be remembered as masters throughout the development history of the work. Even if the copyright owner sells the product, the owner will prove to be one of the previous owners after the sale while the copyright is owned by the author or manufacturer.
Secondly, the owner has the “reference right” of the art work. Owners can view drafts, manuscripts and other works related to the work as well as preferential content.
Thirdly, the owners will be able to purchase physical copies of the artwork during their ownership, and to produce Celluloid animation (hand-painted film animation). Due to the digitalization of animation, the real-life Celluloid animation almost disappeared around 2000. This time, by printing digital data in celluloid animation film, the disappeared Celluloid animation has reappeared.
Fourthly, copyright owners and buyers can trade with people all over the world on art platforms. A portion of the transaction amount will be returned to the originator as a profit and become the original fund for the creation of the next work.
Though the final digital copyright owner has not yet been disclosed, Anique will increase the global circulation of Japanese culture and create new sources of income for creators by adopting blockchain technology.
