Huawei President: Blockchain Was Not Mentioned In Huawei’s Agenda
On the afternoon of April 4th, Shenzhen Municipal Government and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. signed a cooperation agreement to consolidate the two party’s bonding in the future. The action also dispel rumour that Huawei may leave Shenzhen. On the media interview section, Ren Zhengfei, President of Huawei, talked about blockchain and AI. He denied blockchain being the priority target in Huawei’s strategy. However, Huawei released BCS, the cloud blockchain service platform on 30 March.
“Blockchain was not mentioned In Huawei’s agenda.”
In recent years, Huawei’s investment in R&D expenditures has been particularly high, accounting for about 15% of sales revenue. Which future innovation areas will Huawei invest in?
We focus on basic research on our main course, including basic research and application research on AI. Breakthroughs in artificial intelligence are mainly algorithms, computing power and data, which are difficult to penetrate. We follow the world’s trending in development. Blockchain hasn’t been mentioned on the schedule of our company. Innovation on algorithm and computing power is extremely sophisticated and extremely difficult.
Contradictory to the President’s statement, Huawei released the official version of BCS: blockchain cloud service on the Huawei cloud platform on 30 March. During the 2-month test period, BCS has been tried out by various companies to complete “blockchainization “ of existing business. The system is based on hyperledger 1.0.
The BCS boasts to offer one-stop blockchain solution for entities and developers, such as planning, procurement, configuration, development, deployment and service maintenance. The system is supportive of multiple consensus algorithm and high scalability up to 20,000 TPS.
Take creation and deployment for example, users can log on the Huawei BCS panel, enter a few configuration parameters, click on the confirm button. Then the system will automatically deploy nodes of blockchain to designated clusters based on parameters and built-in best practices through Kubernetes. The whole process takes only a few minutes.
After deploying the blockchain service, users can use the software development cloud to implement a full range of CI/CD processes for business applications, smart contract development, testing, and deployment. Huawei Cloud Blockchain Service also provides visualized interfaces and sample code to help developers to develop, install and instantiate code, configure and build application programs, deploy application servers and front-ends, and debug services.
