The sponsorship is a milestone for Bitcoin Cash (BCH), making Houston Rockets the first NBA team in the world to accept sponsorship in BCH.
AntPool is owned by China’s cryptocurrency mining giant Bitmain which is a BCH advocator and may hold one of the biggest stashes of BCH with more than 1 million on hoard. The partnership announcement comes amid rumors that Bitmain is on the brink of bankruptcy.
The company has made a wise choice by sponsoring Houston Rockets, one of the best NBA teams with numerous fans and having won two NBA championships.
For both sides the sponsorship will be the first cooperation of this kind. It is also a good news for the BCH supporters and the entire crypto community.
The move comes weeks after AntPool set sights on Houston as its first expansion city in U.S. to grow its client base on bitcoin mining.
It is also the second time in two weeks that the U.S. professional basketball team Houston Rockets have been in the crypto news.
Prior to it, the luxury car retailer owned by Houston Rockets billionaire, Tilman Fertitta, announced to accept bitcoin and bitcoin cash as means of payment thereby breaking new ground in a segment that caters to athletes, celebrities and other elite clients.
Houston Rockets is actually not the first NBA team to gravitate towards cryptocurrencies. Earlier this year, Mark Cuban, the owner of Dallas Mavericks, indicated that the basketball team would start accepting bitcoin for ticket purchase during the 2018-2019 season.
It is expected that crypto sponsorship logos may appear on some players’ jerseys or playing venues in the upcoming NBA season.
