Bitmain, the world’s largest cryptocurrency mining company, announced its newest mining device known as Antminer S9 Hydro on August 23rd. The flagship product boasts a first-of-its-kind water cooling system to reduce both noise and power consumption.

Antminer S9Hydro is the eighth product Bitmain has launched this year, after the introduction of Antminer S9i, ANTBOX and Z9mini, etc. It supports the SHA-256 secure hash algorithm, which means it can be used for mining virtual currencies such as  Bitcoin(BTC) and Bitcoin Cash(BCH).

The miner has a maximum hashrate of 18 TH/s and claims to have a wall power consumption of around 1,728 W. It is priced at 7450yuan.

Antminer S9Hydroadopts the innovative water cooling design available for heat dissipation. It supports the direct introduction of outdoor water source which meets the requirements of water quality and quickly cool down the computing boards and other components inside the miner, a design to get rid of multiple heat exchange links.

With the unique water cooling system, S9 Hydro can mine along with a specific APW5 power source. Individuals or families can also use a S9 Hydro-Hex external water circulation module to dissipate heat, while in large farms, the adoption of outdoor water source can lower the noise and save a lot of energy during the process of mining. Mining farms that leverage an outdoor water source will reduce between 8% and 12% of electricity consumption.

Antminer S9 Hydro is also effective in noise reduction.Data shows that under the same working temperature, S9 Hydro can decrease the noise by up to 20dB compared with air cooled miners.

Furthermore, S9 Hydro has the advantages of dust-proofing and easy to maintain. The miner has been on sale since August 23th on the official website of Bitmain, and the delivery time is “7 days after the confirmation of payment.”

Since 2013, AntMiner has launched various kinds of mining products with different algorithms, such as S series, L series and D series. They account more than 70 percent of the miner market.

Bitmain’s competitor Canaan unveiled three brand new products on July 31 too. It announced the 7nm ASIC chip for its product series Avalon A9 which has attained market attention.
