An Official Play-to-Earn Game With NFTs Launched for Beijing Winter Olympics 2022

An official Play-to-Earn game has been released by the organizers of the ongoing Winter Olympics in Beijing. This development has come as a surprise to many stakeholders, especially with the fact that in-game rewards of this game have also come in the form of NFTs.

The new game, “Olympic Games Jam: Beijing 2022” was developed by the blockchain game studio nWay, a subsidiary of the giant gaming company, Amonica brands, in partnership with the International Olympic Committee. As of the time of writing, the game was already available for download on Android, and despite several reports that it was also available on iOS, it was yet to be found on AppStore.

The innovative game is designed in a competitive model where players can compete in several Olympic-styled events. Like every other game in the Olympics, rewards are given only to the highest placed finishers, only this time in the form of NFTs, boxes, and the game’s native token which is yet to be listed on any DEX. Events like snowboarding and skiing are featured in Olympic Games Jam: Beijing 2022, and players are allowed to customize their avatars during participation.

“Olympic Games Jam: Beijing 2022” is built on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC), and is an officially licensed product of the ongoing Winter Olympics in Beijing. It contains a substantial roadmap, with reasonable content, NFTs, events, and progression.

The blockchain studio, nWay has become a major feature in the Winter Olympics this year, hosted in Beijing, China. Long before the kick-off of the Olympics, digital versions of the Olympic pins were enabled on nWay’s marketplace. The pins are authentic and licensed through the International Olympic Committee’s official program. The launch of this new game, Olympic Games Jam: Beijing 2022 further substantiates the partnership between nWay and the organizers of the Olympics.

The innovative game is expected to last beyond the current Olympics, as the creator plans to sustain its development and maintenance long after the event. According to Taehoon Kim, chief executive of nWay, there will be continuous updates for Olympic Games Jam: Beijing 2022 in the coming months.

We intend to support the game with continuous updates in the months to come, to keep the players engaged, and the Olympic spirit ongoing, he said.

The launch of Olympic Games Jam: Beijing 2022 comes at a time when the stand of China on NFTs is yet to be clarified. We recall that throughout 2021, there was a full onslaught by the Chinese government on cryptocurrencies and other related developments. This generated some controversy when NFTs started gaining traction in the far-east country. As a result, top tech giants in the country like Alibaba and Tencent had to rebrand their NFT products, referring to them simply as digital collectibles.

China has also warned its citizens against patronizing NFT developments, in some cases describing them as Ponzi schemes where the creators and early adopters profit at the expense of those buying later. The launch of Olympic Games Jam: Beijing 2022 has introduced a different dynamic to the narratives, especially with plans to sustain the game long after the Olympics is over.

Players in Olympic Games Jam: Beijing 2022 can join up to 15 other users worldwide in real-time. The games are arcade-style, featuring different games in Olympics disciplines. The winners earn NFTs, which can be traded for cash prizes as promised by the developers.
